Welcome to the public registration website for the Biscayne BioBlitz!

At the BioBlitz, you can join scientists in the field to find and identify species that live in the park. Teams will explore all of the park’s habitats – coral reefs, mangroves, seagrass communities, hardwood hammock forests, etc. – and discover everything from fishes and corals to plants and insects. All events are free and open to the public.

REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS

There are three advance registration options:

1.  Reserve a space on the Amoray Diver or Cheeka View boats for snorkeling inventories of coral reefs and other marine habitats.  These groups involve a time commitment of at least 3.5 hours.  Registration is required.

2.  Reserve a space on a ferry to Elliot Key, where you can join in island-based activities.  Ferries depart Convoy Point every hour, and the scenic trip lasts one hour.  You will need to reserve a space on a return ferry to Convoy Point.  Registration is required.

3.  Take part in inventory teams at and around Base Camp, which will take place on land or in shallow water.  Registration is recommended.  By registering in advance, you will help us plan activities to meet the expected demand. 

A full schedule of activities will be available on site, to include:

     *Netting and banding migratory songbirds

     *Using dipnets and glass-bottomed buckets to explore seagrass communities

     *Seining fish at the edge of mangroves

     *Identifying plants along hiking trails

     *Catching nocturnal insects with black lights

Remember to stick around after the BioBlitz for the Celebrate Biodiversity Festival on Saturday from 1 to 4 pm.  The festival will include family activities, demonstrations, musical acts, displays, and more opportunities to talk with scientists and see them in action.  The festival is free and does not require registration.

Important Notes

Water-based inventory teams are best suited for those 10 years of age and older.  Minors must be accompanied by an adult at all times.  Participants in water-based field teams must be able to swim. 

Scientists and K-12 teachers who have already registered do no not need to register again.

Every participant (or parent/guardian of a minor) must print, sign, and turn in a general liability waiver before participating in the BioBlitz.  An additional waiver will be required for all participants involved in boat-based inventory.

Off-site parking with shuttle bus service will be located at the Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Those with boats who wish to participate in activities can go directly to Elliott Key.  Docking space will be limited and is available on a first come, first serve basis.  Overnight docking and camping is prohibited.
